Request a Free AssessmentA leftover stump is more than an eyesore – it's a tripping hazard, a pest magnet, and an obstacle for whatever you want to do with your yard next. Tree Doctors provides professional stump grinding and removal across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area – clean, fast, and done right.
Most tree removal companies will take the tree – but leave the stump. At Tree Doctors, we finish the job. Our stump grinding equipment handles stumps of any size, grinding them down to below grade so your yard is clean, safe, and ready for what's next. We serve homeowners and businesses across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Oakville.
Whether you need a single stump removed or a full yard cleared – Tree Doctors has you covered.
Dead, diseased, or dangerously leaning trees don't get safer with time. We remove trees of all sizes quickly and safely, with minimal impact to your property and full permit handling included.
The right tree in the right place makes all the difference. We help you select and plant species suited to your soil, climate, and goals – giving your new trees the best possible start for long-term growth.
Healthy trees start with proper pruning. Our arborists remove dead or overgrown branches to improve structure, promote growth, and reduce the risk of branch failure – keeping your trees looking great and your property safer.
From office parks to retail properties, we provide comprehensive tree care programs for commercial clients. Scheduled maintenance, risk management, emergency response – customized to your property's needs and your business's timeline.
Mulching is one of the best things you can do for a newly planted tree. It retains moisture, regulates soil temperature, and suppresses weeds – giving roots the best possible environment to establish.
Compacted soil is one of the biggest obstacles to healthy root development. Our aeration service loosens the soil around your trees, improving water and nutrient absorption right where it matters most.
Stump grinding looks straightforward – but doing it without damaging underground utilities, irrigation lines, or surrounding root systems takes experience and the right equipment.
At Tree Doctors, our ISA-certified, OCT-trained arborists and trained crew assess every stump before grinding begins. We check for underground hazards, evaluate the root spread, and use professional-grade grinding equipment sized to the job – whether it's a small ornamental stump in a tight backyard or a large hardwood stump on an open commercial site.
Every job is backed by $5,000,000 in liability insurance. When you hire Tree Doctors, the job gets done properly – and your property stays protected.

Our crew grinds the stump down to below grade – typically 6 to 12 inches below the surface – using professional-grade equipment suited to the size and location of the stump. Surrounding lawn and landscaping are protected throughout.
We remove the wood chip debris or spread it over the ground as mulch – whichever you prefer. The hole is filled and the area is left level and ready for replanting, sodding, or landscaping.
That stump has been sitting there for a while. Here's why it's worth dealing with sooner rather than later.
It's a tripping hazard. Stumps – especially older ones that have started to sink into the ground – are easy to miss and easy to trip on. If you have children, guests, or tenants using the yard, it's a liability you don't need.
It's attracting pests. Decaying stumps are prime habitat for carpenter ants, termites, and other wood-boring insects. Once established, those pests don't always stay in the stump – they can migrate to your home or other healthy trees nearby.
It's producing new growth. Many tree species send up new shoots from the stump and root system after removal. These sprouts are persistent, and they'll keep coming back until the stump and roots are dealt with.
It's taking up usable space. Whether you want to plant something new, extend your lawn, add a patio, or simply have a clean yard, a stump is always in the way. Removal opens up the space for whatever you actually want there.
It looks neglected. A stump in an otherwise well-maintained yard stands out. Removing it is a simple improvement that makes an immediate difference to your property's appearance and curb appeal.

Stump grinding uses a rotating cutting wheel to chip the stump and surface roots down to several inches below ground level. The remaining wood chips can be used as mulch or removed from the site. It's the fastest and least invasive method of stump removal for most properties.
We typically grind to 6–12 inches below grade, which is sufficient for most replanting and landscaping purposes. If you need deeper grinding – for example, to pour a concrete pad – we can accommodate that on request.
We can spread them over the ground as mulch, collect and remove them, or leave them in a pile for you to use elsewhere in your garden. Just let us know your preference when we quote the job.
Grinding removes the stump and disrupts the main root system, which stops regrowth in most cases. Some species are more persistent than others – if you're concerned about resprouting, we can advise on the best approach for your specific tree.
Yes. Our equipment comes in different sizes, and we select the right machine for the access and space available. We take care to protect surrounding structures and landscaping throughout the job.
Most residential stumps are ground in under an hour. Larger stumps or multiple stumps on the same property take longer – we'll give you a realistic time estimate when we quote the job.
